Approach
Rand Water, via The Rand Water Institute, will be collaborating and partnering with like-minded organisations. These include organisations pursuing research, development, and Innovation in the water sector. There is a wide range of categories of such “like-minded” organisations or stakeholders, including water sector organisation, government, research and academic institutions, business and industry, and civil society.
Partnerships
Relationships with partners is established, by either entering into a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) or Memoranda of Agreement (MOA). Key strategic partnerships include:
International Water Co-operation
The overall objective of International Water Co-operation (IWC) is to coordinate the Rand water activities in support of the Innovation driven Risk based Strategy. IWC further supports Rand Water’s cross-border activities as an implementing agent of the Department of Water and Sanitation. It coordinates the full implementation of the International Relations Policy by implementing the international travel plan and interfacing with all embassies and missions abroad.
Rand Water’s international activities and co-operation with global structures practically give effect to its Vision “To be a provider of sustainable universally competitive water and sanitation solutions for AFRICA” Rand Water further has an obligation together with other countries to pursue the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) in respect of water and sanitation needs for all.
IWC coordinates the activities of Rand Water for The River Basin Organisations (ORASECOM), SADC (Lesotho (Establishment of a Bulk Water Utility), Botswana (WUC), Namibia(NAM Water)’ Tanzania, sort out, AMCOW- AFWA (Malawi- Lilongwe Water Board, Sierra Leone - Technical support to Ministry of Water Resources); Bi-National Commissions, Participation in Multilateral activities and Participation in Development Finance Institutions (DBSA, World Bank)
